Beverly Conant

I have been painting since I was 16 years old and am now 75.  To me painting was like breathing...something that was both physical and emotional.  In my early 20's and throughout my 30's I took art classes at Community Colleges and from private instructors.

I would say I'm a colorist first and interested in patterns second.  My vision since I was a child has been compromised so I tended to notice the world close up with its rich colors, abstract mixes and negative spaces, which led me to abstract work.

To me painting is playing and is mostly a joy.  I love trying all kinds of paints and working with all kinds of tools or things hanging around that might affect my work.  I don't try to tell people what to see in my work because the whole idea is to allow each individual to have a personal experience with each piece.  I hope it speaks to you on an emotional level that has meaning to you.
